Raised on a farm in western Minnesota, he had early exposure to hunting. His talents for painting wildlife were recognized early, and he settled for a while in Minneapolis. Then he bought land in southeastern Minnesota near the Mississippi River, which places him close to the wildlife and landscape he loves to paint. He also travels widely--Africa, Alaska, Costa Rica, etc.
