Meadowlark Gallery: The Artist Biographies

Gordon Phillips
Gordon Phillips was born in Boone, North Carolina in 1927. He lives in the East and regularly visits the West ever summer. As a child, he resented his talent because teachers asked him to draw pictures on the blackboard during playtime. After high school, he served on a Navy destroyer during World War II, then studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, where he later taught. He worked as an illustrator and art director for eighteen years, mostly as a free lance. When he decided to switch to fine art, he took a nine to five job so he could have evenings and weekends free to paint. After three years, he decided to paint full-time.
