Ned Jacob was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee in 1938. After growing up in New Jersey, he travelled to Montana. During this time he worked as a guide and a trading post clerk when he met the painter Ace Powell who taught him art fundamentals. He then lived with the Blackfeet and then moved later to the Taos area in 1961. Bettina Steinke taught him drawing, A. D. Greer advised him on his colors, and Robert Lougheed took him on field trips. By 1966, Ned Jacob's skills as an artist had matured. He was elected to membership in the Cowboy Artists of America and the National Academy of Western Art. Later he quit both of them because he did not believe in competition with his peers. | ||
